Rossdale Farm in the outskirts of Finstown is the home of the Damsay Flock. A small family run farm surrounded by hills on three sides and the sea On the other.

As a family farm their children are involved in the care and management of the sheep. The children take their responsibility seriously and they truly enjoy and care for their woolly charges. Several sheep even have names and are very much loved.

The fleeces from Damsay Texel sheep are shorn each year and have produced some beautiful spun wool in 2025 with more to arrive in 2026 and 2027.

The white wool that makes the staple of my hand dyed Orkney wool is also from Damsay sheep and they are Shetland x sheep.
